Visa Advise

All,
I am being told the visa count starts only from the next day of arrival in Japan. Is it true?
I will arrive on the 12th Nov in Japan and leave on the 27th Nov. If we count the number of days it will be 16 days. Is a 15 days Visa sufficient for my purpose because of the count from next day of arrival?
Can any one confirm the above and share any link to some official website which confirms the above?

If you are just visiting for work or vacation you will not need a visa for Japan unless you plan on staying longer than 90 days https://japan.visahq.com/You will NOT need a visa for 16 days. Where are you planning to be in Japan (ie Tokyo, Kyoto or Hiroshima)? Are you thinking of getting a JR Pass? Make sure to get the pass before arriving to Japan if yes.

Hi Anne, I should point out that the rule you've described does NOT apply to many countries (mine included). For those jurisdictions without a visa-free arrangement with Japan, visas are required whether you're staying just 1 day or 100 days.
Whether it applies or not to the OP's case depends on what country's passport he's holding.
Cheers.

Visas depend on which country your passport is from. USA/Canada do not require visa under 90 days.
If you do require a visa, it begins the moment you enter the country.

A temporary visitor is good to visit Japan for 90 days or less. You will either be granted 15, 30 or 90 days. Temporary visitor visa, or tourist visa is valid for 90 days. If you have already applied or will be applying, you will notice the number of days you are allowed subject for approval of Japan Embassy in your area. Should you be granted 15-day visa, take a look at this image https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4b/Fukuoka.jpg. You will notice that temporary visitor was granted visa good from April 14 to 29, 2015. For us, starting from April 14, that is 16 days. For Embassy/Immigration, you have a landing permission good for 15 days, landing on April 14 until 29. The correct notion is that the visa count starts from the first day or the entry day in Japan. The last day in which we view as the 16th day is dedicated as exit day. Thus, submit yourself on that day at the Immigration's exit airport before flying to your home country. However, if you are granted 30-day temporary visit visa, you won't be verifying your question here since that suffices your travel period.

Thanks a lot Stikiting. That is really really useful.
Not from any official source but still gives a sigh of relief.
Please let me know if some one finds the information from an official source.
Thanks in Advance.

Also answered over on TripAdvisor.
But the important thing to note is that the post from Anne could have been better. Japan participates in the visa waiver program with 67 countries. Most of these grant a permit (not a visa) for 90 days. Some countries have less and the UK has a different arrangement again.
For the other countries around the world (more than 100) a visa is required and will should specify the duration.

Indeed the post of Anne holds important answer as well. To OP, from what country will you be coming from? Or better, what nationality will you bring in your passport when you visit Japan? For any visa issues, you may check on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/. Pardon my ignorance but you should have asked your question a month before your travel. It seems like you are cramming hence Anne's impression specially in her last paragraph; same as Diego de Manila and mine. I am not sure as well how easy will Japan Embassy in your area provide you a visa given you only have 2 weeks before your travel. Probably, ask the Japan Embassy.

BTW, the web page linked in the second post is not very good, certainly not official and for a company promoting itself as a source of travel advice has errors on it. (Just an observation.)
