Is Alpine route completely closed in December? We are taking our granddaughter to Japan in early December, she has never seen snow.

The Alpine Route is completely closed from mid November till Mid April. All services including transport and lodging also cease to function when the roads close. Unless you plan to trek up in Alpine style, no it is not possible.
