Hi All, I'll be driving around Kyushu area from 2-11 December. Do I need to have snow tire on the car?
My route will be from Fukuoka to Kumamoto via Kyushu Highway Kumamoto to Minamioguni via Milk Road, Minamioguni to Beppu via Yamanami Highway Beppu to Yufu via route 11 and 216 Beppu to Fukuoka via Oita Highway
Thanks in advance for any help and recommendation.
Cheers,
Kino

Not sure if you mean winter tyres or snow chains, but in any case given how mild the weather is and your trip is only about three weeks away, I'd say normal tyres should be fine. Note that winter tyres are NOT good and lose traction if the temperature is too high (just done a google search and that seems to be above 7 degrees centigrade)
But the car hire people will be able to give you the best advice...

Thanks Andy.. what i meant is winter tires.
The car rental company actually recommended we take the winter tires because according to them the road will be slippery during the winter period.

Normal tires should serve you just fine. The start of December still has relatively mild weather and it does not rain a lot. I've taken my motorcycle out on New Year's Day (when most stores were closed) more than once through the mountains of Saga and really loved the scenery. If you're taking the tollways, you won't see cops but there are a lot of radar speed cameras. Since they are not moved, some GPS navi systems even tell you where they all are. Dec 2-11 is a lot of time though, and you could see more if you are inclined. Spending a night at Kurokawa would make a great hot spring experience, and driving is a good convenient way to get there since you can't get there by train. Fukuoka has a number of good places too, and worth some of your time. http://www.thejapanfaq.com/fukpic.htmlhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7LcPcmoSg-j4RLa6iC7ayvBAbOn8-0...The Nanzoin Temple is superb, and nearly unknown to the outside world. Nagasaki is certainly worth some of your time as well - is in fact in many ways the most interesting city on Kyushu. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7LcPcmoSg-gbw2yXNLK92siHyNqSNx...Near Oguni is the Daikanbo Lookout, which gives a tremendous view on a clear day, plus the Nabegadaki Waterfall is close by. Beppu has its famous hot springs too, plus the Hells Tour and nearby Takasakiyama Monkey Park & Aquarium are very good. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7LcPcmoSg-hOggZamc2lUNTr46ApKX...And if you're driving and going to Yufuin, the Sagiridai Overlook is a very good place with a view. One other place you might look at is Kitakyushu - Kokura Castle isn't bad, plus the Moji Retro area preserves an old Japan and the view from atop Mt Sarakurayama is one of the finest in the country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl1pCW9Ibbk
