We are a group of 6 people travelling in Japan in 2017. We are staying in Osaka for 8 days and 7 nights. We would like to visit Kyoto, Kobe, Nara and if possible Hiroshima. Would you advice us to get Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass Type 5days (JR West) or ICE card where you can load your money.

You'll need an IC card regardless of whether or not you buy a rail pass, as not all transport is covered by a pass. You'll need the IC cards (one each) to cover extra transport not included in your pass.

IC card is not discount/unlimited ride Pass. Just no need bringing cash and purchasing again when at transfering for new railway lines and buses. Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass is one good but covered only JR-West lines. See the "Kansai Thru Pass" joined non-JR group Rail and Bus companies list. http://www.surutto.com/tickets/kansai_thru_english.html
