Magome-tsumago hiking in January 2016/12/12 10:49
Is it possible to hike from Magome to Tsumago in January in the winter? what is the easiest way from Nagoya for a day trip?

There is an old thread about this same question, I think the same answers still apply: http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+102939

We took the Shinano limited express from Nagoya to Nakatsugawa Station, then from there the bus to Magome. Walked to Tsumago in about 2.5 hours, then took a taxi from Tsumago to Nagiso (about 700 yen if I recall). There is also a bus to the station but it's not that frequent.

We then hopped back on the Shinano for the return trip to Nagoya. It was very easy and straightforward. There are tourist information offices in all locations who can help.

We left Nagoya quite late, about 10am, and still made it back in plenty of time for dinner.

We travelled in early December and it was a great day out. Very pretty scenery. Go on a clear day. Rain would not be fun.5
