Narita to Shimbashi 2016/12/23 10:01
Hello,

I will be arriving to Narita next Jan-22 in the afternoon with other 13 passengers (friends and family). We would like to take the Keisei Limited Express from Narita. This is the train we would like to take: http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/nrt_access/tokkyu.p...

I have a couple of questions:

1. Will we have to make a transfer? If answer is yes, where?

2. Can I purchase the tickets in advance-online? If answer is yes, through which page (I could not find it)? If answer is no, where should I buy the tickets?

3. How much would each ticket cost?

4. Do you think of any other means of reaching Shimbashi at more or less same cost?

Thank you!

1)
Depends on dep time.
2)
That train is regular commuter type.
No seat numbers for booking.
3)
if with children(6-12yd) will be half of adult(over 12yd).
4)
Take a bus until Yurakucho bus stop 900Y/each.

But Shimbashi is about 10-15 min far south.
Open Google map.

Re: Narita to Shimbashi 2016/12/24 03:15
Exactly where near Shimbashi do you want to go?
Check the google map, and see if your destination is close to Ginza station, which is very close to Shimbashi station.

If Ginza station is close enough, then take the Access Narita Bus. It goes directly from the airport to Ginza station without any transfer. It only makes one other stop at Tokyo Station. Cost is only 1000 yen.

Re: Narita to Shimbashi 2016/12/24 03:21
Thank you everybody for your answers!

I have reviewed my options and probably are going to take the Skyliner to Ueno, and there transfer to the Metro to Shimbashi. I also have the option to go to Nippori....I do not know which one would be better.

I have seen that in Ueno there are escalators and elevators to avoid carrying the luggage up the stairs. But does anybody know if in Shimbashi are there escalators or elevators? I need to go to the Park Hotel which is around 6 min walk from Shimbashi.

Tks!

Take the Skyliner to Nippori instead of Ueno, since Keisei-Ueno and JR Ueno aren't the same. Nippori is the best transfer station from the Skyliner to JR Yamanote.

Thank you John for your answer, but why is Nippori the best transfer station? Do you mean that from Ueno I canLt reach Shimbashi? I see that from Ueno, if I go to the Metro Station I can take the Ginza Line straight to Shimbashi.....isn't it?

By the way, are there in Nippori escalators/elevators as well (to go from the Skyliner to the Yamanote Line?

Tks again!

Re: Narita to Shimbashi 2016/12/24 08:44
You can take the subway from Ueno, but Keisei-Ueno, where the SKyliner ends is not part of Ueno Station. I usually use the station before that, Nippori, where both the Skyliner and the JR Yamanote line co-exist. The transfer at Nippori is smooth and you get on the JR Yamanote, which is above ground and therefore has the advantage of ending with a downward escalator. The subway may be many levels below ground. There will be escalators, but the Ginza line tends to be very busy. I would suggest the transfer at Nippori so you don't have to walk the 300 meters it would take to go from Keisei-Ueno to Ueno station and the further walk to the underground Metro Station. After a long flight, the less you have to walk with luggage, the better.

Re: Narita to Shimbashi (1/2) 2016/12/24 13:59
Between (Keisei) Ueno Station and (Tokyo Metro) Ueno Station is a pathway under the ground, which is fully equipped with elevators.
All Keisei trains leaving NRT for (Keisei) Ueno make a stop at Nippori, and the Keisei-JR transfer in Nippori is simpler than the Keisei-Metro transfer in Ueno; so, as John says, you wonft have to go far as to Ueno.

I will be arriving to Narita next Jan-22 in the afternoon with other 13 passengers (friends and family).

Which terminal of NRT is your flight scheduled to use?
Currently there is no railroad station in NRT Terminal 3.
(JR-East and Keisei are using a misleading description like "Narita Airport Terminal 2 - 3" on signboards.)
You can get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 of NRT by shuttle bus or on foot.
Some buses leaving for Tokyo depart also at Terminal 3.

But does anybody know if in Shimbashi are there escalators or elevators?
I need to go to the Park Hotel which is around 6 min walk from Shimbashi.

You will highly likely need more time to walk.
Walking time which is announced by hotels to get there tends to be too short for travelers carrying much luggage.

There are Shimbashi Stations of JR, of Tokyo Metro and of Toei Subway.
Each of these Shimbashi Stations is equipped with elevators.

When you take the route from Shimbashi Station which is suggested by Park Hotel Tokyo, you at least twice have to use escalators.
From Shimbashi Station of Tokyo Metro, you have to go up a staircase to take the suggested route, so it sounds easier to use an elevator to the ground then take a taxi.

A one-way taxi ride from any of Shimbashi Stations to the hotel requires, when a taxi runs smoothly, 710 yen (#) per middle-size car and around 5 minutes.
A middle-size taxi car can carry up to four adult passengers.

- Toei Subway: Map of subway Shimbashi Station(s) (in Japanese)
http://www.kotsu.metro.tokyo.jp/subway/stations/shimbashi/solid.html?w...
: They are omitted in this map, but a staircase leads to Exit 4 of the Tokyo Metro station (G-08), and beside it is an elevator connecting the underground concourse and the ground.

- Park Hotel Tokyo: Access information (mainly in Japanese)
http://parkhoteltokyo.com/access/
: In the map to show the underground passage, you see a pair of staircases near the gate of Toei Subway Shiodome Station (E-19). Beside these staircases are escalators, which are omitted here in this map.

#: You will come to Tokyo eight days before a new taxi rate will be installed, which will decrease taxi fares for short rides in Tokyo of less than about 2 kilometers.

Re: Narita to Shimbashi (2/2) 2016/12/24 14:25
You have various options to get to Shimbashi Station(s); I list below three of them.
: The first option is what John recommends.
: The transfer in the second option is quickest.
: The cost on the third option is lowest.

[Keisei Skyliner + JR Local train]

A Keisei-JR transfer in Nippori Stations is relatively short and easy.
There is a transfer gate between the two stations.
You can avoid staircases on the transfer route, using escalators or elevators.
Please make sure to choose in Nippori Station the correct track of the Yamanote Line to get to Shimbashi, which is Track 10 on its outer loop.

- JR-East: Map of Nippori Station
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e1184.html

Keisei Skyliner requires a surcharge, and its seats should be reserved.
The total of the basic fare and the Skyliner surcharge is about 2500 yen per way / about 5000 yen per round trip per adult passenger.
If you plan to visit many sites in or around Tokyo which can be accessible mainly by subway, a package of a (pair of) discount Keisei Skyliner ticket(s) and a Tokyo Subway Ticket may be a good deal.

- Tokyo Metro: Discount tickets for customers using Narita Airport
http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/airport_bus/index.html#anc02
: A (pair of) Skyliner ticket(s) in this package gives you a discount of about 500 yen per way / about 1000 yen per round trip.
: A Tokyo Subway Ticket allows you to have unlimited train rides on Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines within 24, 48 or 72 hours.

- Keisei Electric Railway: Timetable for trains leaving Narita Airport
http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/timetable/index.php

[JR Narita Express + JR Local train]

A JR Narita Express train brings you to Tokyo Station, then you can take a Local train on the Yokosuka Line for a few minutes to next Shimbashi Station.
Usually this transfer is quickest because the Narita Express train and the Local train use either the same track or the two tracks beside the same platform.
The tracks and the platform are in the Sobu Underground annex of Tokyo Station.

After arriving to JR Shimbashi Station, it may be better to get through Karasumori Gate and go out via Karasumori Exit, which are both on the ground floor.
The walking route from the nearest Shiodome Gate includes a staircase to go up, which leads to Shiodome Exit on the ground.

- JR-East: Map of Shimbashi Station
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e877.html

JR Narita Express requires a surcharge, and its seats can be reserved.
If you plan to get back to NRT within 14 calendar days, a NfEX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket package may be a good deal, which is sold only to non-Japanese passport holders.

- JR-East: a NfEX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_round.html
: With a pair of tickets in this package, you can travel at 4000 yen per adult passenger, within 14 calendar days, from Narita Airport Station or Airport Terminal 2 Station to a JR station in the designated area then back, mainly by Narita Express.
: The station until which you use the first ticket and the station from which you use the second ticket can be different.

- JR-East: Timetable for Narita Express trains leaving Narita Airport
https://www.eki-net.com/pc/jreast-shinkansen-reservation/English/wb/co...

[Access Narita bus + Tokyo Metro Local train]

You can use the Access Narita bus to Ginza then take a Local train on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line from Ginza Station (G-09) to next Shimbashi Station (G-08).
The cost is less than 1500 yen per adult passenger.

A possible demerit of this option is that your route in Tokyo Metro Ginza Station to the Ginza Line platform is longer when you avoid staircases than the route which includes them.

- Tokyo Metro: Map of Ginza Station (in Japanese)
http://www.tokyometro.jp/station/yardmap_img/_station_%E9%8A%80%E5%BA%...
: In this map, you see an elevator near the staircase leading to Exit C5. The Access Narita bus stop is around the entrance of this elevator on the ground.

- The Access Narita: Timetable for buses leaving from Narita Airport for Ginza
http://accessnarita.jp/en/home/#timetable-title-3195
: Concerning a ride from NRT Terminal 1 or 2, seats are secured on the first-come, first-served basis.
: When you take a bus from NRT Terminal 3, you can try to book your ride at the ticket counter.

If I would chose to go by bus, or with a private transfer (taking advantage of the amount of people to hire a microbus), how long do you think would it take us to reach the Hotel in Ginza?

Is the route from Narita usually crowded on a sunday afternoon?

Japan is not your country no such private transfer.
Cheapest Bus timetable and fare answered already.
