Shibu/Yudanaka onsen in April

Hi we are thinking of visiting the area mid April to see the monkeys and also to have a quiet onsen experience. What will the weather be like then? Will we be able to walk around in yukatas or will it be too cold? Also how far is it between the 2 towns, walkable? Or bus/taxi? Have found a nice ryokan in Yadanaka but prefer the look of Shibu.
