You already know where you are going. Just check the locations you want here in Japan Guide.

We're not travel agents; we don't plan itineraries. Read the relevant pages on this website, construct a rough itinerary for yourself, and then we can help with that.

If you want someone to plan your holiday for you, pay a travel agent to do so.

Here is the issue.

I could suggest doing a temple visit to mount Koya. You might find this to be the most enlightening thing that you have ever done in your life, or, you could be looking at your watch every 30 seconds during morning prayers, thinking "I don't go ever go to church, why in the world would anyone do this on vacation?".

I could suggest that you go to Arima Onsen in Kobe. You might relax in the hot springs water and the "gold waters" cure all your ills, or you fear of heights may make going on the Kobe Ropeway an event that stresses you out, and going nude into a public bath may be the most embarrassing moment in your life.

I could suggest going to Osaka Aquarium, only to find that you are sickened by the sight of fish.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4004.html

I also don't know when you are going, so I don't know if you will be able to attend any of the festivals in the area.

Even the smaller festivals, like the cart races or fire festivals in the area might interest you.

You might love thses thing, or, the crowds might overwhelm you.

I have never been "Templed out", but I have heard that some people do.

I don't know if you like theme parks, so I don't know if I should recommend Universal Studios.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4021.html

Are you going during cherry blossom time? Do you know about Yoshino?
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4150.html

I also don't know if you like the bright light os the city, so I don't know if I should recommend staying in Namba.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4001.html

So, I don't know what to recommend to you.

@Ebaychucky:

That's also the thing about doing recommendation without due diligence/research on the part of OP.

@Lechaa:

Seasoned forumers and guests alike will ask question every now and then regarding their preferred places. So to say, crafting itinerary is not like party magic. Japan travel will never be cheap, unless you want it to be 'charged to experience'.

It's not being capricious of asking for the right answer. What Japan Guide is for if we do not check each interests here first?

With only 4 days (does that include going to and from the airport?), and 3 destinations, there isn't much wiggle room.

In Osaka, most people visit Osaka Castle, the Kaiyukan Aquarium, walking around Dotonbori and Amerika-mura, maybe visit Shinsekai...

In Kyoto, there are so many places to visit. Most people visit some of the World Heritage Sites, like Kinkakuji Temple, Ryoanji Temple, Nijo Castle, Toji Temple, Ginkakuji Temple, Kamigamo Shrine, Shimogamo Shrine, etc. Kiyomizu Temple is under rennovation, so although it's popular, it may not be worth visiting.

Alternatively, you could choose an area of the city and just explore it. Arashiyama is popular for that. Higashiyama is good, too.

Heian Shrine, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Tofukuji Temple, etc. are also popular places to visit.

In Nara, you can visit most of the main sites in a day, so there are not as many choices to make. The National Museum and Heijo Palace Site take a while to visit, but otherwise the sites don't take so long individually.

Here's what I'd do:

I'd get a hotel in the Namba area of Osaka, because that's sort of a transportation hub. You'll also be walking distance from Osaka nightlife. (I've stayed at the Midosuji Hotel, and it's convenient, cozy and cheap). Kyoto and Nara are both short train rides away.

Day 1 - Osaka
- Osaka Castle and the park/gardens around it
- Maybe a sporting event, like seeing the Hanshin Tigers, if that interests you.
- In the evening, walk and eat your way down Dotonbori, eating cheap street food.

Day 2 - Nara
- take the train to Nara, then the bus to Nara Koen and be amazed by the shrines and temple.
- By deer biscuits and be attached by the semi-tame deer.

Days 3 and 4 - Kyoto
- See as much of Kyoto as you can, with the following order of priority:
- Fushimi Inari (all the gates)
- Arashiyama (bamboo forest and attractive shrines and temples near a mountain)
- Higashiyama (Kiyomizu Dera and other temples, beautiful markets and restaurants)
- Gion (geisha district and atmospheric alleys)
- Nijo Castle - Summer castle of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu
- Kinkakuji - Iconic Golden Pavillion
- Eat an expensive kaiseki mean, and a cheap bowl of ramen.

You should also see if there are any festivals (matsuri) during your visit. Local shrine matsuris are a lot of fun. Here are some festivals I found by Googling:

- Migochi Hikiyama Festival Kyoto May 3 and 4.
- Kakeuma Shinji / Fukakusa Matsuri in Kyoto, May 1 through 5.
- Takigi Noh festival in Nara on May 11 and 12
- Aoi Festival in Kyoto May 15
- Kobe Festival in Kobe (not far away) May 17 and 18
- Mifune Boat Festival in Arashiyama, Kyoto, 3rd Sunday
- Uchiwa Maki Festival in Nara May 19

There are probably more. Just show up and people will be happy to see you there, and will likely hand you food and drinks. Seriously. Festivals are so much fun.

You specifically said, "Could anyone plan a trip for me?"

For recommended places to visit, look at the relevant pages on this website. There are lots of recommendations for each city.
