Sapporo Snow Festival? 2017/1/21 06:36
In the planning of my trip, included within my itinerary is just two nights in Sapporo. I will be travelling from Tokyo very early on the 11th February, then will be leaving very early on the 13th February to reach Kyoto. Question is, is all this travelling for the Snow Festival actually worth it or could I make better use of my time?

My itinerary thus follows:

8th-11th - Tokyo
13th-20th - Kyoto
20th-22nd - Hakone
22nd-23rd - Kanazawa
23rd-25th - Miyajima
25th-1st- I'll either be travelling Kyushu OR Shikoku (not sure where yet, suggestions on both would be great)
1st-3rd - Nikko
3rd-7th - END of JR Pass, back to Tokyo

*JR Pass will be activated on 11th February

Fes is worthful if never seen snow or.
(last year coming over 2.6 millions travelers nation/world wide as fes period total)
But Sapporo is not so close fr Tokyo.

Most travelers using air.
(already no cheap fare one also good hotels booking full)

If want to see plan change to weekday(escape weekend).
But depends on weather, if bad snow clouds coming
you may not reach to Sapporo on the day by train operate stopped.
Watch weather forecast.

Yr plan is not matched 21d pass as turn.
See the Google map again.

As already mentioned Tokyo to Sapporo or vice versa is best reached by flying. Shinkansen and limited express between cities will take you more than 7 hours.

If you plan on flying to Sapporo (CTS) from Tokyo (HND) on 2.11, you can eventually fly back from CTS to either KMQ or TOY on 2.12. Seems there's only 1 schedule from CTS to either KMQ http://www.komatsuairport.jp/flight/sapporo_en.html or TOY http://www.toyama-airport.co.jp/sche_loca_en. KMQ is Komatsu which is in Ishikawa (same home with Kanazawa) and TOY is Toyama which you can reach to or from Kanazawa via shinkansen.

If you opt out Sapporo, your Tokyo-Kyoto-Hakone-Kanazawa seems not a good choice. Better do Tokyo-Kanazawa-Kyoto-Hiroshima/Miyajima should you connect via shinkansen. Kanazawa to Kyoto is via limited express.

Do the Hakone and Nikko tour as you want from Tokyo, as you go back to Tokyo.

Your travel is only few days away. If you have already booked your accommodations this time then further suggestions will make no sense, i.e. subject to 50% or 100% cancellation charge by the accommodation, unless you are coming up this plan for next year.

Both Tokyo to Sapporo on the 11th and Sapporo-Komatsu on the 13th can be booked with ANA's Experience Japan fare.

Hotels would be a bigger problem, especially for the night of the 11th (much less so on the 12th).

'Yr plan is not matched 21d pass as turn.

What do you mean by this?

And being limited express with the Kanazawa Kyoto connection what do you mean by this? I'll be travelling from Hakone to Kanazawa?

To OP, have you searched thru google map, hyperdia/jorudan and JR Pass official website and Japan Guide your travels? You do not simply ask what limited express is. JR Pass is valid in any JR-operated train networks as well as ferry between Hiroshima and Miyajima and more details are simply stated here http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361.html.

Here is clearer connection between Kanazawa to Kyoto when you traverse from Hokuriku area http://jprail.com/trains/sort-by-type/limited-express/limited-express-....

Hakone going to Kanazawa is also connected via shinkansen. However, there are stations in Hakone connected via shinkansen and one of them is Odawara station. From Odawara station going to Kanazawa station, train schedule will tell you to 1) go back to Tokyo Station for shinkansen ride from there to Kanazawa station or 2) Odawara shinkansen to Nagoya or Maibara then limited express ride to Kanazawa. I thought you have already searched regarding this. The first one is simpler, thus telling you to just do the Tokyo-Kanazawa-Kyoto-Hiroshima traverse instead of Tokyo-Kyoto-Hakone-Kanazawa as you prefer. The simplest is, access Hakone from Tokyo which is nearer as you go back to Tokyo prior to your flight home.

Plan well. You have few days to go.
