Can I hike Mt Koya on Feb (winter)?

I will be visiting Japan on Feb 2017 as my first time, and i want to visit koyasan, and want to make it special by taking the Choici Moichi piligramate trail. just want to know if it is safe in terms of weather and environment of situation of the trail at this time of winter?
