14 days Itinerary Tohoku / Hokkaido

Hi Guys,
Hope you are well.
I hope someone could help us.
We are coming to Japan for our 5th trip near the end of August 2017, we have pretty much traveled most of the main places west/south of Tokyo so this trip we are flying in to Sapporo Chitose Airport and flying back out from Tokyo Haneda Airport.
We had the idea of doing some travelling around Hokkaido for the first 5-7 days,maybe getting another direct plane to Kushiro to start off further away then renting a car and heading back to sapporo, then afterwards heading back down to Tokyo spending the last 1-3 days near Tokyo.
Has anyone done anything similar or can make any recommendations/suggestions for our first time visiting the Hokkaido/ Tohoku Areas?
