So it looks like public transport will get me there no earlier than 7:15. I can't find the requirement from my airline, but that seems like it will be cutting it close.
Has anyone used one of the shuttle bus services like www.mktaxi-japan.com? Or would that be a terrible idea on the last day of Golden Week?

If you can get to the Kyoto station early (take a taxi for example), there are express buses leaving as early as 04:30am. The next one leaves at 05:10am and arrives at KIX around 06:35am. The one after that leaves at 05:40am.

Matayoshi99: That's not a bad idea. I guess I'll just need to figure out how bad the traffic is that day.

An alternative thought is to depart Kyoto the day or evening before your flight and stay the night at The Kansai Nikko Hotel, it is IN THE KANSAI AIRPORT (KIX), about 3-4 minutes walk from the flight 'check-incounters'. That way you can wake up early for your check in. On several visits to Kyoto and Nara when I have taken the Limousine Buses, twice I encountered 'accidents' on the 'freeways' and traffic was banked up to walking pace!, and I arrived late for check-in. Traffic on busy freeways is always un-predictable!. Just a thought, good luck.
