Are handmade gifts appreciated in japan? 2017/3/20 13:16
I'm thinking of a birthday present for a japanese friend.
Branded items or the handmade items?
Which is more appreciated?
Are handmade items old fashioned nowadays?

How old is your friend? Many younger Japanese would rather have something bought and personalized for them. Older Japanese would appreciate a handmade gift, assuming it was well crafted.

About 30.
It might not be that well crafted either since its my first attempt.
Ah.. so probably buying something would be better.
Thank you for replying!

Something bought but personalized would be the best way to go. Japanese people put a lot of effort into their clothing and appearance, so while a watch is classic it would be really expensive. Something monogramed would probably be reasonable from a tie to an iPhone case.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I've decided to go with something small but bought, together with my handmade item.
