Can I fly to Japan before starting job?

I've seen variations of this question before, so I apologize if this one has been asked frequently.
I am a university student graduating in May. I have a job offer from a company to teach English beginning in August or early September. I am waiting exact details of the job pending my graduation in May. This company has explained that they will file the paperwork for my work visa.
After I graduate in May, I was planning to take a trip to Japan. I last made the trip to Tokyo in January, and that 90-day tourist visa expired in February.
Can I take this trip in May? Or will this hinder the work visa application process/prevent my employer from being able to sponsor me? Thank you for your help!
