Japan Rail Pass and Onsen 2017/6/19 04:22
Hello everyone,

in October until November 2017, me and my husband are flying to Tokyo.
We are so excited, that we are planning our trip already.

Ok, so far, we decided on this:

We will be booking an Airbnb appartment for the whole 14 days in Shinjuku.
When we arrive in Narita, we will be taking the Airport Limousine for 30 € each.

For 7 days we will be doing the following:

- Exploring and shopping in Shibuya (Shibuya 109 and Harajuku), visit the Monster Cafe, explore Shinjuku and visit the Robot Cafe, then we are going to visit the fish market and the new Gundam, from then on we will go to Disney Sea. Then we will visit the One Piece Museum and Tokyo Tower.
- On a day we will visit also Ikebukuro, Akhibara, Ginza, Sanrio Puroland and the Ghibli Museum.

- Then after this 7 Days, we will visit a Ryokan/Onsen where we want to stay for one night. The next day we will be moving to Kyoto and then on the same day we will be going to Osaka for the aquarium and to eat food.

After that we are going back to Tokyo.

We are staying 14 days in total into the Airbnb in Tokyo, because we dont want to bring our luggage with us. Also we are going to make the Japan Rail Pass only for 7 days.

I have several questions:

1) Can you recommend a Ryopkan, which is near the Mt. Fuji, with a private Onsen and is really traditional looking. I would love to go inside an onsen like this:

But at Mt Fuji they are mostly not looking like that. Can you recommend us one?

2) Are 10 days or more for Tokyo enough?

3) Im scared of the flight, im flying with ANA and Swiss. How do I manage that and calm myself down?

4) Is it wise to stay in Shinjuku?

5) What restaurants can you recommend for eating Ramen and Sushi?

Thank you very much in forward.

1) http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6902.html

2) it is 10 days too much (at least for me)
(no, with 10 days you should be pretty fine and possible to see all important things)

3) drink something, that you will not get in japan before the flight for good luck (e.g. some good wine from your country)
drink something during the flight, to proof that luck is on your side (e.g. some cheap airplane wine)
drink something after the flight, on your success (e.g. some nice nihonshuu)

4) depends what you want. but it isnt unwise also

5) any. there is not much to make false when in japan. if you really want to try the best of the best use this for your search:

As for 3, I have flown both ANA and Swiss and both have a very good and enjoyable service (Swiss being the better one, IMO) with a personal entertainment system and very nice food.
What stresses me out are tight connections and delays in case I'm not flying directly. Sometimes I take a flight a day early, book a hotel at the intermediate airport and treat myself to a good dinner and cocktails in the hotel bar to check back in the next day at my leisure.

I don't think you're that early to start planning! Besides, planning is half the fun.

In fact, you can probably buy your Ghibli Museum ticket now. They go on sale four months in advance and keep in mind that you do need to get a ticket early.

As for flying... Yeah, I can understand the nervousness there. The take-off and landing always makes me nervous, but during the flight it's mostly boring really, just watch a movie on the in-flight system? (I think most airlines have these).

For 3: I dont like to fly so Iuse to go to my doctor and ask him for medicin that cool me down. Use to be good help for me. In Japan with my family right now ( in Gero onsen). We flew with Finnair, very good service and just 9 hours.
We stayed with Airbnb in Shinjuku for 8 nights and everything was just great! We were happy about appartment and close to both subway and JR.
