Hi there,
is there any possibility to stay a night at a buddhist temple without meals?
Background is: A friend and I are Backpackers, but we want to stay a night in Kôyasan in a temple (Shokubo) - But we are searching for a budget friendly accomodation and if possible without any meals. I know that the Jimyôin provided this service 8 years ago. I was there 8 years ago, and had no meals. But according to the travel agent ITCJ it is not possible anymore. So I'm looking for alternatives. Have somebody any hints for me?

My best memory of the shukubo in Koyasan was the shojin ryori food, especially the yummy tofu they have there. I would recommend that you not skip the food and suggest that you save money at a different time.
