Depends on where you go afterwards.
Also note that the Zao Station in the timetable searches by Glimpigumpi is not near the town of Zao Onsen. Instead, you should get off at Yamagata Station and catch a bus from there.
Also, are thetr any day tour operator in Zao?
In what season? I doubt there are tours in English, but there could be bus tours in Japanese.

Thx!
Hi Uji,
With a 7-days JR pass, I plan to start off from Tokyo to Zao, Takayama, Hakone and back to Tokyo. Does this route make sense? I am a little confused with the train schedule.
If I book a hotel near Yamagata JR station, are there any activities or shops nearby? What time does the shop close in February?
Do you know how can I make reservation for heated snow mobile to view snow monsters in Zao?
Are there any day tour within Zao (any tour operator)?
What are the chances of seeing snow monsters from 16-18 February 2018?
Thanks in advance
