Send SMS to Japanese Mobile Number

My Japanese friend only gave me the +8180 XXXXXXXX (12 digits) mobile phone number, as I don't have LINE from Hong Kong, I only have her mobile no. I sent a sms to this number (I know there is no problem for me to send out international sms from my side) but I am not sure if she can receive the sms in Japan? as I heard that Japan mobile system is different... now we kind of lost each other's contact.. anybody has any idea? Thank you so much!

Yes, Japanese phones can receive SMS. And, no, the mobile system is not "different" in any significant way. It was back in 2005 or so.
