I think Ito Yokado and Aeon Style offer tax-exempt purchasing at at least some of their stores. You might find more information here: https://www.itoyokado.co.jp/special/global/en/tax-free/There are restrictions on the types of things you can get a tax exemption on, the concept being that if itfs something that is logically going to be consumed in Japan, such as perishable food items, you canft get out of paying the consumption tax. I once bought a bunch of packaged okashi at an Ito Yokado and managed to get the consumption tax refunded, but the process was a time-consuming nuisance and then I was officially supposed to show the items when I departed Japan, meaning they had to be in my carry-on bag and not my checked suitcase (I understand that they donft actually enforce this rule, though). I basically decided never to do it again. But the amount of money wasnft great in my case. (Maybe enough to buy a cheap lunch for two, but not worth the time and hassle as far as I was concerned.)
