Distilled water in 2024? 2024/3/5 12:39
I know that this has been asked before, but I want current information. I need distilled water for a CPAP machine; is that available in Japan, and if so, where?

You can buy them at drug stores.

You can buy them in stores or even just order cases of distilled water online. Rakuten or Amazon are good places to look.

I'm only visiting Japan for two weeks, so that solution doesn't really apply, but thank you!

Visit a drug store and ask for ö—¯… (jou-ryuu-sui).

I think seiseisui (¸»… , purified water) might possibly be a little easier to find, and it is okay for use with a CPAP machine. You can find it at practically any Matsumoto Kiyoshi. Similar stores will probably have it as well. Drugstores that fill prescriptions and also sell OTC medicines and products will almost certainly have it, too. I had no trouble finding it in cities. In the hinterlands, you might have more trouble. For example, if you go to Hakone or Shirakawago, you might want to pick up enough to last you for as many nights as you are staying. (It comes in bottles that should last a couple of nights depending on the size of your humidifier and how long you run the machine.)

There is a discussion of using purified water instead of distilled water on another forum:

That thread is a number of years old, but the guidance about using seiseisui for CPAP machines still applies. As for the availability of seisei sui, it is definitely available in 2024. I bought it many times in February and March.

Kim, thank you for enlightening us.

After double-checking, I realized that there is a thing called
CPAP—p¸»…
which means purified water for CPAP. Here are some images.

But if it so happens that you can't find proper bottled water (like we couldn't during the pandemic), the Internet tells us that "tap drinking-water" is fine for CPAP as well, while mineral water is not. When using tap water, you wash the tank once a week by pouring 10% vinegar water into the tank and keeping the water there for 10 minutes.

in general, distilled water called by ordinary people is de-ionized water. it is made by passing through mixed-bed resins of cation and anion beads. for public people's usages, it is OK perfectly.
