Note that in general you cannot bring a bicycle into public transport (trains etc) without it being in a bag. There are a few train lines dotted around the country that allow you to bring a gnakedh bicycle but these are the rare exceptions.

Regarding this cable car , I agree with PP that you canft bring a bike and I would think that even in a bag it would be very unlikely.

Plus what are you going to do with the bike on top of Hieizan?

This person did try (and gsucceedh) to ride up by bike to Hieizan but it doesnft sound like fun. She /he was able to ride down by cable car but I think only because it was a foldable bike in a bag and probably the cable car employees took pity on her/him

As far as I am aware there is no possibility to ride up/down from Hieizan. The road that goes up is closed for bicycles unfortunately. This person posted a video with a ride. But actually leave the bike at the base station of the cable car.

In case you are considering riding a bike around Kyoto there are a lot of great places. Obviously there is Biwako but also northern Kyoto has nice mountain roads on offer. Maybe my blog can give you some ideas.

we cycled there from Kyoto by riverside last year, and left bikes in the station. Nothing to do with bike in top.
