if i have to change planes in NRT Tokyo, do I need a visa. I hold an Indian passport, and am travelling from Jakarta to Los Angeles

Happy to be corrected but why would you need a visa to transit through any international airport. Technically you do not enter the country.

At US airports, you have to do just that, for example, when flying from Europe to Canada with a transit in the USA.

Fortunately, the same is not the case at Narita Airport. You won't need a visa.
