Formula 1 Trip 2009/6/4 21:49
Hi, I'm planning a trip to Japan to watch the F1 at Suzuka in October..

Just need a bit of help and advice.

We were planning on flying to Nagoya (NGO) and staying there for the duration of the F1 then moving up to Tokyo for the last 5 days of the trip.

We have since been advised the Nagoya is a pretty boring place and we'd be better off in Osaka.. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Also would we be able to use the JR Pass (7 day) to get from the airport to Suzuka for 3 seperate days and then use it to get to Tokyo?
(I have searched but seem to be struggling)

And my last question (for now) Which is the area we'd want to stay in in Tokyo where the main shopping/entertainment etc is?

Sorry for all the questions.. Thanks Scott.

Whether Osaka or Nagoya depends on personal interest. Aichi prefecture is the centre of Japanese industrial tourism.

Yes, single tickets will come cheaper though.

Can you point me inthe right direction for the single ticket prices..

Thanks again!

The shuttle bus to the circuit departs at Shiroko station, which is not JR station but Kintetsu station. So your rail travel from Nagoya to Shirako is not covered by JR Pass.

ICOCA IC Smart Card seems to be accepted at Kintetsu Nagoya station and Shiroko station.

fare info 2009/6/5 19:20
The return trip between Nagoya and Shiroko costs 1600yen by Express or 3340yen by LTD Express. So Kintetsu Rail Pass(3500yen) will pay off for 3 return trips.

The bus from Shiroko to the circuit costs 380yen.

Oneway bullet train fare from Nagoya to Tokyo is 10780yen.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to pre-purchase the train/bus ticket from Nagoya to Suzuka circuit for the F1 GP?

Also, how do I pre-purchase a day return on the bullet train from Nagoya to Kyoto?

Thanks for all your help!

Yes, seat reservations can be made for limited express trains, starting one month ahead of travel date.

Also, how do I pre-purchase a day return on the bullet train from Nagoya to Kyoto?

At the ticket counter or a vending machine in any JR railway station.

Uji,

thanks for your help.

A final question: to make the seat reservations (either limited express trains to Suzuka,or the bullet train to Kyoto) can this be done online from overseas? Or, is it that you need to be physically in Japan to reserve?

Thanks,

Simon

can this be done online from overseas?

No, most trains cannot be reserved from overseas. But I got aware of the following service recently:
