Is big luggage allowed in JR trains? 2010/5/11 00:08
Is it possible to travel from JR Maihama station to JR Shinagawa station with big luggages? Are we allowed to board the train? How much will the fare be to travel from JR Maihama station to JR Shinagawa station?

depends on your definition of big... 2010/5/11 14:01
but basically, if you can carry it yourself, then it should be ok. but if you have a lot, try not to travel during rush hours, it will make your ride and the other passengers ride easier.

the cheapest way is via JR trains and it will cost 290 yen. you can also take the NEX/ shinkansen, from Tokyo station to Shinagawa, but the stations are so close, it's really not worth the extra expense.

use this to figure out how and how much it will cost to travel from station to station.

and if you have to squish on a train, just remember the golden word...sumimasen (excuse me) and people will make room for you. =)

JR regulations state that the maximum size of luggage to be brought onto trains must exceed 250 cm if you add up its length, depth and height (none of the three dimensions may exceed 200 cm). And the weight of the luggage should not exceed 30 kg.

I recommend to use a delivery service if your luggage is excessively big:
