Booking a ferry to Rebun/Rishiri

Just wondering whether it is necessary to book ferries to and from Wakkanai and Rebun/Rishiri or if it is possible to turn up on the day. Will be traveling through there end of July, height of holiday season, will this make it hard to get a ticket?

I believe that reservations are only possible for the first class section and for cars. Passengers, bicycles and motorbikes cannot make reservations and should buy the ticket at the terminal.
