budget for 6 days in tokyo 2010/6/30 19:42
greetings,

for a 6 day stay in japan for 2, will $2,500 USD fit for accomodation (cheap inns only),transportation, food, a little shopping for souvenirs,a day tour (optional only) of nearby cities like osaka, heroshima, mt. fuji and tokyo itself.

for visiting osaka, mt. fuji and heroshima for a day tour, we are planning to take the shinkansen as an experience. will the budget fit for a shinkansen fare?

thankyou

I assume that the cost for the international flights is not included in these 2500 USD.

Note that Osaka and Hiroshima are not near Tokyo. Domestic transportation (7-day Japan Rail Passes) will probably cost you two around 800 USD, leaving you with around 140 USD per person and day for the rest. That is a very comfortable amount if you plan to stay at budget places.

I would be more worried about looking up travel times between the cities.

You definitely can' t go to Hiroshima and Osaka as a day trip from Tokyo. Osaka perhaps but then you would only see the bare minimum.
Even 2 full days would be short for Hiroshima/ Miyajima island and Osaka though possible, if you leave Tokyo early in the morning of the first day and come back to Tokyo late the second day. but you need to carry suitcases and rent a hotel in Hiroshima.

How about going to Kamakura (not far from Tokyo) one day and Nikko (about 2 hrs from Tokyo) another day? but with Mt Fuji for a 3rd day this live you little time for Tokyo itself.
