Hi!
I am intending to travel on the Moonlight Nagara on 15/8 and reach Himeji on 16/8.
From the forum here i know that the train is very popular and hard to get the ticket.
But i saw a post from other forum that says that 6 out of 9 cars become non reserved after Odawara, so about an hour into the ride, those without reservations, and those who don't want to pay for them, can line up and rush in at Odawara.
Is this still appliable?

That is out-of-date. The train is now reserved along its entire route. You cannot board at Odawara without a seat reservation.
