minshuku in Tsumago 2010/7/4 23:13
Hi
I'm looking for a minshuku in Tsumago. Hopefuly one that had a really good dinner (and breakfast), preferably by the irori. It's a special night for us - so we hope for someplace magical and memorable.
if any of you had been to one - please give us name - and how you contacted it for booking.

also - I want it to be in Tsumago itself - not outside of it. so we can stroll at night time or in the evening.

I saw in a blog a recommendation for a place called Koshinduka. I couldn't understand if it was right in the village itself, nor how to contact it. if anyone been there, and can comment on that.. I'll appreciate it.

thanks very much

The Fujioto seems to get consistently extremely good reviews:

I have not stayed at the Fujioto, but I stayed at the Matsushiroya, whose location is also extremely good. The room we stayed in was great and very simple (fusuma walls, no locks), which some types of travelers might not appreciate. The food was quite good, but the service was neither outstanding nor bad:

ryokan shimosagaya is where my party of four stayed last november. It is still expensive, but certainly less than the one recommended above. It is in a side, er, lane, just off the nakasendo, which is a 20 second walk away. fabulous japanese dinners and breakfast, although we went down the street after breakfast looking for (and finding) good coffee
