Access to Takachiho Gorge 2010/7/17 16:57
I plan to take the train from Beppu to Nobeoka arriving Nobeoka at 10.35 am. Will I be in time to take the 10.40 am bus to Takachiho Gorge.

If not, I will have to take the 11.30 bus. Is there anything I can do at Nobeoka Station.

Thanks

If you walk quick and don't get lost, you should be able to make it. But you don't have much room for errors.

The following map shows the location of the bus stop (bust stop #2) in relation to the station:

Thanks Uji

From the map can I know where I can find the lockers. If I have no time to put my hand carry bag in the lockers, are there locker facilities at Takachiho Gorge.

Thanks

I don't know about locker facilities at either spot. Note also that the bus from Nobeoka only gets you as far as the Takachiho Bus Terminal. From there it is still some distance to the gorge:

Do I need to make advance reservation for the bus from JR Nobeoka Station to the Takachiho Bus Center.

Any email address that I can write to enquire.

Thanks

Bus & Lockers 2010/7/22 00:29
Lockers:
I didn't see any lockers in & out of the Takachiho Bus Centre when I was there (in 2009). Didn't see any lockers at the gorge as well.

Nobeoka Bus Reservation:

Not necessary, just drop in the bus centre and and buy the ticket there. That was during March though, not sure about other months. The bus that I was on had more that 1/2 empty seats.

Also, if you are returning to JR Nobeoka Station on the SAME day, it's slightly cheaper to buy the one day pass.

It's the local bus in Takachiho that you need to worrying about. I took a cab last time, didn't even know there were local buses at that time.

Hi Douglas

Which 1 day pass are your referring to.

I have found out that the bus from JR Nobeoka Station to Takachiho Gorge each way is 1710 yen. Is this correct.

Sandy.

1 Day Pass 2010/7/22 02:55
I have no idea which one to be honest. The lady at the counter asked me would I be back to Nobeoka bus centre on the same day and I said yes. She gave me this one day pass instead of individual tickets. Didn't even know a day pass available at that time.

I can't remember the exact price now. All I know it's cheaper (did the math on that day). Anyway, doesn't hurt to ask and compare the prices.
