Red Cranes Kushiro - best viewing time?

We are planning on taking the 7.03 train from Sapporo arriving at Kushiro at 12.05 on February 10th. We are hoping for a good view of the red cranes at the research centre. Can anyone tell me if there is a best chance time of seeing them eg. sunset or is their a feeding time? (as its a research centre for preservation Im assuming they may feed them)
Will it possible do you think to see them that day so that we can move onto Abashiri the next morning or will we have to wait until the next morning (is morning better?)
