Hiring a motorbike in Japan 2010/10/2 23:40

Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice on hiring a motor bike in Japan. I am a UK citizen and have full Motorbike licence to ride any size motorbike, I also have full car licence and international licence.

I am thinking about hiring a motorbike whilst in Japan sometime and wanted to know how I can do this and where I can hire a bike.

I am thinking about touring Japan maybe for 2- 3 weeks on motorbike so I can see many beautiful places and have the freedom to go where I want to.

I would be brining my full leathers, boots, back protector, gloves helmet etc, so I would need to hire the bike but not riding equipment.

I was thinking about hiring a bike maybe in Tokyo and returning the bike to Tokyo, but this could also be Osaka etc, as I wanted to hire a bike near the airport I fly to (either Kansai or Narita)

I am an experienced rider, having my licence for 20 years.

Is it possible for Non Japanese citizen to hire a big motor bike (750 - 1000 cc would be size I want) for 2- 3 weeks in Japan.

Also I have no idea about cost of rental, do you think it would be expensive compared to hire car prices.

I was unsure about insurance also......

As you can see I need a lot of help with this..... sorry for so many questions.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Kind Regards

Hi! I'm a rider in Japan.
I've used rental company for friends a few times. There are several places you can use.
Please check out this place for your idea. They have many branches.
From Narita...maybe at Ueno.

They are expensive though.

With International licence you'll be OK.
Passport for ID and your domestic licence.
There is FAQ from their web site about hiring a bike with international licence

I ride with English speakers often and know riders forums in japan and people. If you want to know something more, let me know.

Thanks Heidi.... Takaii ne !! 2010/10/6 02:11
Thanks Heidi,

I looked at the websites .....

My kanji reading skill is not so good, Katakana, Hiragana no problem, but Kanji.... too hard for me !!

I looked at all the websites and found the monthly website a little hard to understand.

http://www.venkei.jp/price/index.html

The other 2 websites I could 50% understand.... These websites seemed expensive !! Maybe monthly hire is a better deal, but because I could not understand the website I could not understand if the prices were weekly or monthly.

I was trying to find a price for a GSXR 750 or a GSXR 1000 for 1 month, but could not understand how to do it.

Do you know if there are any English speaking biking forums that I may be able to look at to help me find prices for hiring bikes in Japan.

I really do appreciate you sending me the links, they have been useful because I now know I can rent large motor cycles in Japan, I just want to see if I can find a cheaper way because it seems expensive....

Maybe I hire for a month and camp and not stay in hostel or ryokan..... maybe price of camping could be low and I could have enough money to rent a motorbike if I camp as I travel in Japan....

Thank you very much for your help. I

I appreciate it.

The venkei website lists gsxr-1000's as a deluxe class rental, so the monthly rate should be 73,500 yen.

Have you checked out the gaijin riders forum yet? They might be able to help with some suggestions.

This is very useful. Many thanks for all the linka and giving me the orice of the GSXR 1000, this seems reasonable compared to daily rental prices....

Thank you very much for your reply.
