Online booking Sanyo Area Pass 2010/11/2 15:03
Just wondering if anyone already booked Sanyo Area Pass online. Do we need to reserve all our itinerary? What happens if we need to change the time as we cannot guarantee the exact time being reserved. Or is it ok to just reserve the 1st trip and just use it for the next 4 days by going to the station?

You do not need to make any reservations, or you could make a reservation just before boarding the train. Where are you planning to go with the pass?

Hiroshima-Miyajima-Kurashiki-Himeji-Kobe 2010/11/3 14:55
@RobBeer, it's for our last 4 days trip in Japan. In fact, you were very instrumental for our decision on which passes to get. Opted to book the Sanyo Area pass online to avail of the free upgrade of first class on Haruka train from Shinosaka to Kansai airport on our way home.

As you are able to use the Nozomi Shinkansen, you will have access to trains running every 10-15 minutes between Shin Osaka and Hiroshima. So you could make reservations just before departure. The same for your return to Okayama (for Kurashiki). Okayama to Himeji is one stop if you avoid the slower Kodoma Shinkansen and I'd only bother to get a reservation if you knew you would be taking the Hikari Rail Star as reserved seats are much bigger than unreserved seats (almost like Green car seating). The same goes for Himeji to Shin Kobe, from Shin Kobe to Shin Osaka it is one stop and about 12 minutes, really no need for a reservation. All other trains are likely to be local and would not be reservable.
