Upcoming Japan trip 2010/12/6 15:57
Hi Experts,

~ transportation 1~
Will be arriving on SQ636, can someone advise which terminal will SQ arrive and depart from? Had a chck at hyperdia.com and it shows 5 different location

1) Haneda Airport Dosmetic Terminal
2) Haneda Airport International Building
3) Haneda Airport International Terminal
4) Haneda Airport Terminal 1
5) Haneda Airport Terminal 2

Also, will be catching a connecting flight on NH4713 at 0740 to chitose, can advise which terminal to go to? And arriving back at Haneda which terminal?

~ transportation 2~

Will be going to Osaka from tokyo station on the 26th dec, will there be any issue getting the reserve seats on 25th Dec (just one day inadvance). We are only arriving in tokyo on 25th hence can't reserve the seats earlier.

Have 2 x 29" hard-case luggages, will there be any issue in the shinkasan?

What are the frequency of direct (without stops) train from tokyo- shin osaka station.

~heat paks~

Anyone tried using those from daiso, does it works?

Will putting into the shoes be very uncomfortable?

Thanks very much in advance for answers.

SQ636 should arrive at the International Terminal
NH4713 should depart from Domestic Terminal 2 (ie East Wing)

As always, check with your airlines.

I'm not sure that I follow your schedule. Are you going to New Chitose from Haneda when you arrive in Japan? Or are you going to Osaka first? Are you buying a JR National Rail Pass?

If you are going to New Chitose then you can exchange your voucher for the Rail Pass when you arrive at New Chitose, you can specify for it to start the day you want to travel from Tokyo to Osaka, and you can book your Shinkansen tickets in New Chitose Airport at the JR offices there (or in Sapporo).

If you can only book the day before then you may not get the exact time that you want if you want a seat, but you can always try for a non-reserved seat, just make sure you arrive at the station early. Worst case scenario is that you stand for a portion of the journey. This is all assuming you will have a Normal JR Rail Pass and be restricted to Hikari trains (or Kodama) trains.

If you can't store them above you then you can store them behind the last seat in the carriage. There is usually room for six or so suitcases there.

What are the frequency of direct (without stops) train from tokyo- shin osaka station. There are no direct trains, however most Hikari trains will only make a few stops along the way and you don't need to switch trains. There are 29 different Hikari trains on Dec 26 that you could take. You can use www.hyperdia.com/en/ to work out which trains to take. You should be able to see all the trains for that day by following this link:-
http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi/en/intervaltime.html?dep_node=TOKYO&arv_no...

Depending on if/when you travel back to Tokyo you may wish to book that trip early also.

Enjoy your trip!

You'll arrive at the international terminal and depart from the domestic terminal, there are shuttle buses connecting the two. On your return, you will arrive back at the domestic terminal:

You don't say when you will be in Hokkaido, but it seem to be before Tokyo. If you are going to Sapporo, just make your reservations there.

You can place you suitcases behind the last seats in each car of the Shinkansen. Try to be first or one of the first) in line on the platform and make sure you are entering the car by the rear doors.

There are no "non stopping" trains between Tokyo and Shin Osaka. The fastest and most frequent service is by Nozomi Shinkansen, these run every 10 minutes thru most of the day. Note that if you are using a JR Rail Pass you can only use the slower and less frequent Hikari Shinkansen, these run every 30 minutes.

Thank you both.

The reserve seats can only be done when we exchange the Rail pass right?

Will arrive in Sapporo on 19th Dec, but will not be utilising the rail pass till 25th Dec in tokyo. Hence can we still activate the pass exchange in Sapporo on 19th and reserve our seats OR can we ONLY do it in tokyo?

New Chitose 2010/12/9 12:53
Hi Lena,

As mentioned in my earlier reply:-
If you are going to New Chitose then you can exchange your voucher for the Rail Pass when you arrive at New Chitose, you can specify for it to start the day you want to travel from Tokyo to Osaka, and you can book your Shinkansen tickets in New Chitose Airport at the JR offices there (or in Sapporo).

So, you exchange the voucher for the Rail Pass when you arrive in Sapporo (either in the city or at New Chitose Airport). They will usually give you a small form to fill out where you can state the start date as 25th December. They then will give you the actual Rail Pass in Sapporo and you can make your bookings straight away for the Shinkansen from Tokyo to ShinOsaka on the 26th of December.

Hope that makes sense!
