How many days in Jozankei? 2011/7/27 02:33
Hello we are thinking of going to Jozankei in Oct. Is 2 days ok, not too long?

I can't find any english area map of Jozankei. Is there any?

Thanks!

If not staying for an onsen experience, Jozankei can be covered in less than a day. When exactly in Oct are you going to Jozankei !? If you are going around mid Oct, ideally spend a night there and take a side trip to the Houkeikyou Dam area for the beautiful autumn foliage.

There is an English map of Jozankei at the bottom of the following page:

Hi thanks for your replies!

We are thinking around 11-12 Oct. We want to have onsen experience and also see the surroundings like the dam etc.

Is staying 2 nites too long then?

cheers

Even staying for an onsen experience + a side trip to Houkeikyou area one night should be enough for Jozankei. Arriving on the first day, walk the town before bedding down in one of the onsen ryokans or hotels. Start early for Houkeikyou the next morning to beat the crowd and hopefully be able to return to Jozankei for lunch and your onward journey.

If you have an extra night, consider going further south to scenic Shikotsu-ko or even further down to visit Noboribetsu and Toya-ko. Staying a night in Toya-ko will have the bonus of a daily evening firework display.

Will you be using public transport or a rental car!? If you are driving, another beautiful autumn foliage destination is Shinsen-numa/Shinsen Marsh in the Niseko area.
