Using toll road 2012/3/7 19:54
I got a question about using toll roads in Japan. One of the books I'm reading say the toll road can be charged at fixed price or by section travelled. The book states that you simply take a ticket at the entry point and give the ticket to the attendant at the exit and they will tell you how much to pay. Is this correct?

It depends on the road!

The usual procedure on expressways is that you take a ticket at the entrance gate and then pay the toll at the exit gate. The rate will be calculated based on the distance traveled. But there are some roads or road sections along which everybody pays a flat rate. In that case, only a single toll gate (somewhere along the road) will be encountered, where everybody will be paying the toll.
