By Narita Express and Tohoku Shinkansen via Tokyo Station. Yes, you can buy tickets online here:

The trip from Narita to Tokyo to Sendai is very easy. We did it in April and had no problems at all.
The transfer at Tokyo Station is very well signed, but I would allow at least 15-20 mins to do it.
It is also very easy to purchase NEx and Shinkansen tickets at the JR Ticket counters at Narita Airport: when you arrive: the staff there will do it all for you.
And it is worth paying for the reserved seat on the Shinkansen: the Nex is all reserved seating anyway.
Have fun, and enjoy beautiful Sendai!

There are several ways to get on a bullet train for Sendai.

As mentioned earlier, to go to Tokyo Station is one option.

You can also go to Omiya (Oh-miya) Station or Ueno Station to get on a bullet train for Sendai, because major bullet trains for Sendai depart from Tokyo, then stop at Ueno and Omiya.

To access to Omiya Station, get on a limousine bus for Omiya:
http://www.keiseibus.co.jp/global/en/nrt02.html
This limousine bus will stop at the west exit of Omiya Station (All limousine buses are quite punctual and reliable).

To access to (Keisei) Ueno Station, get on a Keisei Skyliner train (limited express):
http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/ae_outline/index.ht...
Don't forget that there are two Ueno stations: Keisei Ueno station and JR Ueno station. Both stations are 100-200 meters apart each other, so it means you have to walk from one station to another.

Tohoku Shinkansen Timetables at Omiya Station:
Mon-Fri

Sat.

Sun. and Holidays

Note that all bullet trains for Sendai move very slowly from Tokyo to Omiya because they can not run with their fastest speed due to environmental problems (people living around there don't like bullet trains' big noises). So, if you want to get on a very fast bullet train, going to Omiya would be better (After leaving Omiya, all bullet trains for Sendai will be accelerated to their maximum speed).

If you visit Sendai in mid-August, you should make a bullet train reservation (Getting a bullet train ticket in mid-August is rather difficult even for people living in Japan).

At JR Narita Airport staion, you can get all of base fare ticket from NRT to Sendai, Express supplement for NEX train and Shinkansen supplement for Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sendai at one time.

One way trip from NRT to Sendai costs 13300yen, so JR east pass can be cheaper if you make a round trip within 5 days and you are a on the temporally visitor visa.
