Asakusa-Odaiba water bus & 3G on Ipad2 2012/7/10 23:08
Hi,

I'm checking on website for the water bus from Asakusa to Odaiba http://www.suijobus.co.jp/, however, it's all in japanese and google translate seems to be giving funny information after auto-translate. I need some help on how/where to board the Asakusa water bus to Odaiba. I get to know from some forum, if taking the water bus from Asakusa to Odaiba, there's a transfer needed. Is it easier/better to take it from Asakusa or the transferred pier (where is this?)?

From Asakusa subway station, how do I get to water bus station? Can someone give directions please. I can't seems to find online.

Secondly, I need to find out how I can use 3G on my Ipad2? Reason using ipad2 is to check on the map. google map is really helpful. I would appreciate if someone could recommend some offline maps too. Hopefully the offline map wouldn't be blur which they usually is.

Thanks alot!

At the easy-to-find pier just a few steps from Tobu Asakusa Station:

No, there are some direct boats, called Himiko. If you don't take the Himiko, then a transfer is required at Hinode Pier. Indirect connections are more frequent than Himiko:

The timetable is here:

There are lots of bilingual maps and signs in the subway stations that will lead you to the correct exit. Details depend on which subway line you will be arriving with. Take a look at the above linked maps, and you should have no problem finding it.

Thanks Uji for the useful link..how about the 3G connection on ipad2? I know it's not easy to get free wifi in Tokyo. How is renting sim card work?

I rented a sim card from www.globaladvancedcomm.com on a 2 week trip to Osaka in Dec 2011. There are other companies that rent sim cards, but I liked these guys because they had the option to have it delivered to your hotel before you arrive. And they provided a addressed, stamped envelope to send it back, which I got the hotel to do when I checked out. Highly recommended.

3G reception in Osaka, Kyoto, and Hiroshima, was pretty good most places. We skyped on the streets of Shinsaibashi and in front of attractions to show the family back home :) Was also invaluable for google maps and checking timetables.

Make sure your iPad is SIM unlocked!!!!

You can buy a B-mobile visitor SIM for about 3000 yen, lasts 30 days and data is 1G.

Getting the B-mobile visitor SIM sounds good. Where can I buy this? Obviously this is a cheaper options compare to renting a SIM instead.

Thanks Obak3 & Sandy for the info.
