Sking lessons near to Tokyo

My children (ages 8 and 10) want to try skiing. We are looking for the nearest skiing areas to Tokyo and we may stay for 2 nights. We're looking for lessons in english.
i have heard of sugiyama, evergreen and prince hotel, karuizawa, gala yuzawa but these areas seem far. any other recommendations?

You've pretty much listed the closest ski areas to Tokyo, and of the ones you mentioned I would recommend Karuizawa for its easy access and because there are lots of other things to do in the area besides skiing, or Gala Yuzawa as it is the closest "real" ski resort to Tokyo.

thank you. now should i stay in karuizawa for 2 nights or should i make a daytrip to karuizawa. the hotels in karuizawa seem to be very expensive!
