My Summer Trip to Japan 2012/7/18 12:39
Hello, everyone!!

I'll visit Japan during 28 July - 5 August, so could you please tell me about the following questions;

1. I want to see the "Clione" in Hokkaido, so I'd like to know that where can I see it, other than Kamikawa Ice Pavillion and Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum?

2. Is there any bus route from Goryokaku Tower to Goryokaku Station? I searched from Google map, but I can't see anything...

3. Is there any coin locker at Kakunodate Station, and is it worth to visit there before joining the Kanto Matsuri in Akita?

4. I'll visit Sendai on 4 August, so can I see something about Tanabata Matsuri and where can I see? (I realize that Sendai Tanabata matsuri is held during 6-8 Aug.)

5. Is it hard to get the ticket for "Night Train Akebono" during the Kanto Matsuri? Because I'll reserve it from Akita to Ueno after the festival ended.

Thank you everyone for your answers!!

Hi JJ

1. I want to see the "Clione" in Hokkaido, so I'd like to know that where can I see it, other than Kamikawa Ice Pavillion and Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum?

You can see the creature also in Sapporo, Wakkanai, and Otaru.

When you move from Shin-Chitose Airport to Sapporo by railway, get off a train at JR Shin-Sapporo Station to move to a nearby small aquarium. This aquarium (called Sanpiaza Suizokukan) is located only 200 meters south-west of the Shin-Sapporo station (it is situated behind Daiei, large department store next to the station).

Note: Suizokukan means "aquarium"

The clione living at this aquarium:

At this small aquarium, you can see also various kinds of creatures:

Sanpiaza Suizokukan
Open Hours: 10:00-18:00
Admission fee: 900 yen

In Otaru, visit "Gin no Kane" (a small fantasy world of several attractive facilities). Its third facility is called Clione Museum (imagine a coffee shop named displaying clione to attract tourists. The fourth facility may remind you of Kamikawa's Ice Pavilion. The fourth facility is next to the coffee shop).

Note: Gin no Kane means "silver bell."

The clione you can see at this museum:

Enjoy watching tiny clione with drinking coffee.

Open Hours: 9:00-17:00
open everyday
Admission fee: at most, you will pay for a cup of coffee

2. Is there any bus route from Goryokaku Tower to Goryokaku Station? I searched from Google map, but I can't see anything...

Most tourists visiting the tower get on a shuttle bus at Hakodate Station.

Goryokaku Station is located about 2,000 meters north-west of the tower (not so far). You can move to this station by taxi. It is expected you will pay around 1,000-1,500 yen for the taxi. Take a look at this image:

This is Goryokaku Station, a rather small station for local community, not for tourists.

I think there are coin lockers for all stations in Japan... But I don't know about Kakunodate's sightseeing.

3. Is there any coin locker at Kakunodate Station,

According to my survey,
There are several normal-size coin lockers (300 yen) near the exit of Kakunodate Station.

This is a large photo of the station:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ja/f/f2/Kakunodate-sta.jpg
you can see these coin lockers on this photo.

If your luggage is large, visit Kakunodate Kanko Joho Center (Kakunodate Sightseeing Information Center) next to the station:
http://www.mapple.net/spots/G00501022301.htm
The staffs working at this center will keep you luggage until 17:30.
Open Hours: 9:00-17:30
200 yen is needed.
This center will be closed at 17:30.

Re: My Summer Trip to Japan 2012/7/20 13:39
Another place in Hokkaido to see Clione Limacina angel fish is the Okhotsk Tower in Mombetsu.

http://www.o-tower.co.jp/kurione.html

From the following Kakunodate rail station photo there seems to be coin lockers located on the right of the top picture.
http://hacchi-no-he.net/line/tazawako/station/0100_kakunodate.htm

The main attraction in Kakunodate is the Buke-yaskiki samurai district, but it is best visited during some seasonal highlights such as cherry blossom from late Apr to early May or autumn foliage from late Oct to early Nov.

If you are coming down from Hokkaido to Tohoku and are looking for festive event, consider the Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori which is held on Aug 2 to Aug 7.

If you can't be in Sendai for the Tanabata Festival, you can still go to the Kanezaki Belle Factory to see those colourful floats used during the festival.

Thank you for your answers again!!
I'm so appreciated so much.

Yes, I'll visit Aomori for Nebuta Matsuri, and visit Akita for Kanto Matsuri, then take the night train to Ueno.

Anyway, I'm interested in Tanabata Matsuri in Sendai also. So, should I cancel to visit Kakunodate and visit Kanezaki Factory instead??
Now, I can't decide the best place...
