Road condition in Aso and Kurokawa 2012/7/21 05:28
Hi, our family (two adults and two daughters) is coming to Japan 25th July. We have a plan to travel to Kyushu in the end of July and we have allready booked on onsen in Kurokawa village July 31st. How is the road (train - we have Train passess) and transportation condition? Is the infrastructure recovering and can we safely travel to Kurokawa? How about visiting Aso mounting?

Thanks for your answer

The current situation is explained here:

Driving to Kurokawa is no problem. You will likely encounter some construction sites, road closures and detours, but Kurokawa is easily reachable.

Likewise, the bus between Fukuoka and Kurokawa is running normally. The bus between Kumamoto, Aso, Kurokawa and Beppu is running, but incurs some delays along the way.

The JR trains are not running in the Aso region, but there are substitute buses.

The situation is likely to further improve by the 31st. But if possible, I recommend to travel by car. It will be much easier than traveling by public transportation.
