Autumn in Biwako Valley 2012/10/12 07:33
Hi All,

Can I know when is the best time to view peak autumn colors in Biwako valley? Is it in end of Oct, early of Nov of end of Nov? I will be there on Nov 22nd. And the main reason I go there is to view Lake Biwako and see maple leaves

Koyo forecast for Biwa-ko this year is from mid Oct to early Nov.

On the following you can click on various sites around Biwa-ko to have a look at some update forecasts.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Do you think I would able to see the peak colors on Nov 22nd? Or it might too late?

I don't think anyone can accurately foretell the unpredictable weather these days. It is said that this year the season maybe a bit late. But if the Yahoo site quoted above has already taken it into account and forecast koyo in Biwa-ko to be from mid Oct to early Nov, then the latter half of Nov would be too late.

Thank you for your opinion William.

In this case, I will change the place to Mt Hiei, take cable car from Sakamoto. Hopefully I can see the autumn colors.

Good choice for Hieizan/Enryaku-ji as koyo there this year is said to last till late Nov.

During autumn there is additional evening illumination in Enryaku-ji till Nov 25 this year. Hopefully you can enjoy koyo after dusk when the place is beautifully lit up.

Also note that from the rurubu webpage there is a mention of a koyo festival held from Nov 3 to 25 and the venue is around the Yokawa area in Enryaku-ji.

Okies but just would like to check that I could able to view lake Biwa right? And the journey or the road would it be hilly at Sakamoto town and around the Mt. Hiei? Because I'm going with my parents.
