Autumn Foliage in Fukuoka city 2012/10/18 13:21
Hi.
Is end Nov. a bit too late for koyo season in Fukuoka city ?
Are there any good spots for autumn foliage viewing in Fukuoka city and Dazaifu ?
Thank you.

Although not as spectacular as those in and around Kyoto, koyo can still be enjoyed in Dazaifu during the latter half of Nov.

The following are some photos taken during late Nov last year (scroll down to the bottom half of the page).

Thanks William !

What about other places in Kyushu like Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Kagoshima ?
Any recommended autumn foliage viewing spots ?
(can't seem to find any information on autumn foliage in Kyushu in this site)

I am not sure if I will be too late for autumn foliage; will be visiting those places at the end of Nov until 12 Dec.

I haven't been to Kyushu for autumn foliage yet but have read that the following places are good for it, but note that early Dec maybe a bit late. We had been to Kokonoe Yume Otsurihashi and the view of the valley from the suspension bridge is breathtaking even without koyo.

Inside Fukuoka City itself there is not much. But a few places are the Aburayama Shimin-no-Mori in the mountains (a bit hard to reach by bus though), as well as a former villa, Yusentei, and in the Fukuoka Botanical Garden in Minami-Koen. You can see a lot more info on

Dazaifu has a few places as well, like Kamado Jinja, Dazaifu Tenmangu, and Komyo Zenji.

But by far one of the very best places is in Amagi City, called Akitsuki, so much that it's called a "little Kyoto". There is also the remains of a smaller castle there. You can see some wonderful footage of it at
