Japan Rail Pass

Hi, I'm travalling to Japan coming 16 to 24 Dec. But will most likely be taking trains for 4 to 5 days. Question is one of the route is from Yudanaka, Nagano to Kyoto. Need advise on the below question.

1) Does JREast Pass cover train from Yudanaka, Nagano to Kyoto?

2) Does Japan Rail Pass cover train from Yudanaka, Nagano to Kyoto?

3) Is the Japan Rail Pass cover everything that the JREast Pass cover?

Both passes will get you as far as Nagano Station. From there you have to take the private Nagaden train to Yudanaka, which is not covered by either pass.

3) Is the Japan Rail Pass cover everything that the JREast Pass cover?

Generally yes, but there are a few differences. The Japan Rail pass also covers buses (which JR East pass doesn't), while the JR East Pass covers some private lines that the Japan Rail Pass doesn't. There are a few other perks that are better explained on each of the JR pass pages:

No. I assume you wish to go to see the snow monkeys?

Tokyo to Nagano would be covered as JR East lines.

Nagano to Yudanaka not covered as Nagaden Railways.

Nagano to Kyoto not covered as Kyoto is outside JR East area.

2) Does Japan Rail Pass cover train from Yudanaka, Nagano to Kyoto?

Tokyo to Nagano yes.
Nagano to Yudanaka, no - as above.
Nagano to Kyoto, yes.

3) Is the Japan Rail Pass cover everything that the JREast Pass cover?

Not quite, but close enough for most of your general questions.
