Making mochi in Sendai?

We will be visiting family in Sendai for Christmas/New Year's. Last time we went during this time, we made our own mochi at a farm that was advertised on TV. We would like our daughter, who is 10, to be able to do this. Where can we make mochi in Sendai?

There may be more at neighborhood community centers or temples/shrines but you need to ask around unless you get lucky like me in Tokyo.
I saw something going on from my hotel window at the top of a hill nearby. I walked up and saw many district neighbors & kids gathered at a shrine property and making new year mochi, kinako-mochi, zenzai, etc. Anybody could join and eat & drink(sake, too) all free.
