how to get to Mt. Fuji from Narita airport 2013/1/16 11:34
My daughter and I would like to know if we can take a train from Narita airport to stay overnight at one of the hotel near by Mt. Fuji so we can climb and watch the sun rise the next morning. Our flight landed in Narita at 3:00 pm. Please recommend a hotel to stay and if 2 night and one day at mt. fuji is sufficient because we have a total of 4 nights and 5 days in Japan and we also like to see Tokyo city sightseeing as well. Please could someone give us an advice on this trip. thank you very much for your advice.

This doesn't make sense to me. Do you plan to climb Mt Fuji on the same day you land in Japan, or do you want to spend a night at Kawaguchiko, and then sightsee for one day, and climb Mt Fuji in the evening so that you are there for sunrise?

What date do you land in Japan?

I assume you intend to climb from Kawaguchiko Fifth Station? You do realise it will be 5-7 hours of climbing from the Fifth Station? So if you plan to see sunrise most people would start climbing late at night (7-9pm).

Yes. Most people will be tired after they have made the descent though.

What is your budget? There are many hotels/hostels/ryokan at Kawaguchiko.

Narita to Tokyo:-

Depending on your entire trip I'd consider Suica + NEX return package to get you to Shinjuku and back and then one of the buses from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko.

Enjoy your trip!

I need a clear message of which transportation I should use when I land on Narita airport on 7/12 to shinjuku, tokyo. I was told I could take a bus from a bus at Shinjuku to go to Mt. Fuji so I can climb mt fuji on 7/13. You think it could be possible that I can get a hotel nearl to the bus station for the night 7/12 and start climbing the next day at 7 or 9 pm. Please also recommend the hotel to stay on 7/12. I have 4 days in Japan so I also would like to stay at Ginza and visit the fish market.. Please give me an advice of what I can do.. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

ok from Narita catch the NEX (narita express) buy the suica nex return package for best value. There are lots of hotels around shinjuku station, the prince hotel is ok and has rooms to meet most budgets.

Then you can catch a bus from the highway bus terminal to mt fuji 5th station. i would recommend a bus that gets you there for around 8pm and spend an hour getting used to the extra altitude. If possible book your tickets as soon as you arrive or early on the day of the climb, as the buses get booked out. for the return trip a bus from fuji at around noon at the earliest will give you plenty of time.
