Sorry to hijack this topic but has anyone entered Japan as a tourist while waiting for their COE? Mine was submitted a while ago and my wife said I could enter the country anyway.
Just curious if anyone has done this before? Do you need to leave the country to obtain your visa (in my case spouse visa)?
Thanks!

Sorry to hijack this topic but has anyone entered Japan as a tourist while waiting for their COE? Mine was submitted a while ago and my wife said I could enter the country anyway.I think your wife is right. The two things are not related in my opinion. A COE is not a visa. Do you need to leave the country to obtain your visa (in my case spouse visa)?I don't think so. However, I think a COE is for someone who is applying for a visa while he is not in Japan. Please refer to the thread below. http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+116402

guess I'm a bit late to this thread. I just got my COE (to apply for a spousal visa) within a month. I was physically in Japan for a work trip and applied for my COE at the same time. Next is for me to go to Embassy here in Toronto, Canada get an "entry" visa and then show up at the Airport :)
COE: it was A LOT OF WORK....I was lucky enough that my wife is good with paperwork and that the inlaws were nice enough to sponsor me.
I'm a bit anxious as to the duration of my VISA that I will receive, hopefully it will be at least 3 years so I don't have to worry about it. However I've read that most people get 1 year at the beginning.
