How to travel between Kinosaki Onsen and Tokyo

By train:

Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and transfer to the JR Kinosaki limited express to Kinosaki Onsen Station. The one way journey, using a nozomi train along the Tokaido Shinkansen, takes about five hours, while an additional hour is required when using a hikari train.

The regular one way fare for the journey is around 16,000 yen. The Japan Rail Pass is valid on hikari, but not on nozomi trains.

By air via Osaka and Konotori Tajima Airport:

Konotori Tajima Airport is the closest airport to Kinosaki (45 minute by bus). However, the airport is connected only to Osaka's Itami Airport with two flights per day (flight time: 40 minutes; operated by JAL Group). The regular one way fare is about 12,000 yen, but by using a discount offer, you can usually fly for between 8,000 and 11,000 yen. How to travel between Tokyo and Osaka.

By air via Tottori Airport:

Tottori Airport is the closest airport with direct flights to Tokyo (Haneda Airport). ANA operates four flights per day (flight duration: 80 minutes). The regular one way fare is about 28,000 yen, but by using a discount offer, you can usually fly for between 15,000 and 24,000 yen. Air passes for foreign visitors are even cheaper.

From Tottori Airport, Kinosaki can be reached in about two hours by rental car. Alternatively, take the airport bus from the airport to Tottori Station (20 minutes, 450 yen) and use local trains along the JR Sanin Line to reach Kinosaki (2.5 hours, 1280 yen, one transfer along the way).
