How to travel between Kinosaki and Tokyo
By train
Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and transfer to a JR limited express train to Kinosaki Onsen Station. The one way journey takes 5-6 hours, costs around 16,000 yen and is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass if using a hikari train between Tokyo and Kyoto.
By air via Osaka and Konotori Tajima Airport
Konotori Tajima Airport is the closest airport to Kinosaki (45 minute by bus). However, the airport is connected only to Osaka's Itami Airport with two flights per day by JAL. Flight duration is 40 minutes. The regular one way fare is about 12,000 yen, but by using a discount offer, you can usually fly for between 8,000 and 11,000 yen. By air via Tottori Airport
Tottori Airport is the closest airport with direct flights to Tokyo (Haneda Airport). ANA operates four flights per day. Flight duration is 80 minutes. The regular one way fare is about 28,000 yen, but by using a discount offer, you can usually fly for between 15,000 and 24,000 yen. Air passes for foreign visitors are even cheaper.
From Tottori Airport, Kinosaki can be reached in about two hours by rental car. Alternatively, take the airport bus from the airport to Tottori Station (20 minutes, 450 yen) and use local trains along the JR Sanin Line to reach Kinosaki (2.5 hours, 1280 yen, one transfer along the way).
By bus
There are no direct buses between Tokyo and Kinosaki. Instead, a bus journey between the two places is best done via Osaka (from 12 hours, 7000 yen):
