Local tour guide for Kamakura, Japan Trip? 2022/12/22 21:32
Hi,

Hope you are doing well!

Looking for your suggestions and advice for my upcoming trip to Japan.

During my trip to Japan from JAN 14-25, I am looking for a private tour guide. It will take me between ten and fifteen days to leave. I would like to explore the most popular places in a short travel story.

Japan's local language is too difficult for me - Thatfs why I want to hire a local guide who knows both languages.

While browsing I found this site gowithguide.com - have you been on any of their tours? Could you tell me about them?"

It's a local site in japan - can I go with them? According to them, places with tour experiences and reasonable prices are also very suitable for me. Would you like to suggest a better option instead of going with them?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Matt

99% Of Japan has English language signage. No need for a guide if that is your only reason for needing one.

You can get free volunteer guides in many places in Japan. You only pay for any transport, meals, and admissions.

I think this comes down to personal preference. Most people here on this forum are either seasoned (Japan) travelers or residents in Japan. So to us hiring a guide for a day seems quite unnecessary. But if you enjoy having a guide and feel more relaxed that you donft miss anything important then a guide is the right thing for you.

The volunteer guides I know are mostly at some temples /sightseeing spots for that specific place. Not someone who would be going with you from one place to the next.

I canft talk to the guide you found online as I never used guides in Japan.

It is definitely possible to travel through Japan with no understanding of Japanese but individual travel always requires more preparation on your part than a guided tour.

Many who come and ask questions on this forum include first-time travelers to Japan. And most ask for suggestions on itineraries, places to visit, etc. so that they can put together their own itineraries. Which is quite easy and fun to do.
Most of my friends who visit Japan from the States have done their own planning too - they range in age from 40 - 70. One relied on an American travel agency fully for train tickets and airport pickups, mostly because they were concerned they might get lost; another relied on me (their friend) because they simply didnft do their homework lol.

If you want a full guide, ask the real professionals: licensed guide interpreters. You can search here.

Mattsharon,
As you asked, yes, there is one group that can guide you in Kamakura:
Kanagawa SGG Club

Hi Ken ,

Thank you so much for your suggestion.

Yes, I have gone through https://volunteerguide-ksgg.jp/ site and had a zoom call with them for their consulting fee and tour guide process. they are charging 700 yen for 4 hours. If we want to hire for our complete tour like 5 to 6 days. they will charge nearly 30000 Yen it's near $227 it's fine for me.

but in the late morning, I got a text from them. They want to discuss again regarding our tour. I think they want to negotiate the price. Once this call has done will share here the talk here.

I also had a zoom call with https://gowithguide.com/japan/kamakura But they are charging 35000 yen from the group of people. As they said they will add us with their group our cost will be reduced and even provide the cab facility as well. But we have to pay the fee on every place their entry fee.
