I need to buy some cutlery and maybe some decent kitchen knives as a present. What is the age restriction on knives and other bladed objects? Thanks.

I'm 18. At home I'd be OK to buy them, but I'm still confused about ages for drinking, curfew etc here in Japan.
Just thought I'd ask and save myself from any potential embarrassment the next time I go to Daiso and Kappabashi Street.
