Japanese breakfast in Kyoto

We will be staying at a business hotel in Kyoto that would be serving the usual western buffet fare. As we enjoy traditional japanese breakfast, we have decided to give that a miss. A friend has told me to check out Hyotei for breakfast but unfortunately they will not be open during the period of our stay. Can anyone suggest any place that we can try? I have tried googling online but nothing has quite come up.Appreciate if I can get some suggestions. thanks.

With a few exceptions, upscale hotel restaurants are pretty much the only places to find Japanese breakfast. Look for some upscale hotels near where you're staying and ask them.

I rate the Westin Miyako food pretty highly. I havent had the japanese breakfast there but this person has http://en.japantourist.jp/view/westin-kyoto-your-country-garden-retrea...We usually stay at Nara Hotel. The japanese breakfast there is just spectacular. At the Hyatt in Kyoto we generally have the western buffet (it is too good to pass up) but they also have a japanese breakfast. I havent tried it, but the food at the hotel is top rate so I'm sure it is good.

If you want to try a cheaper and smaller breakfast, you could try the chain restaurants that serve katsu don and so on.

I think you can still have breakfast in Hyotei but during that period will be at the Annex, just next to the main restaurant. Many people have it at the Annex. Hyotei is very famous for its breakfast, not to mention the 3 stars it has from Michelin.
